Acne is a very common skin condition that is characterized by inflammations on the skin. Each and every one of us must have experienced this particular condition at some point in life. Let us look at what causes acne.

The hair on our skin grows out of tiny apertures known as hair follicles. Attached to these hair follicles are sebaceous glands. They are responsible for secreting an oily substance known as sebum. Sebum is important as it helps in maintain the health of our skin. When these hair follicles get clogged or blocked, the sebum that is being secreted tends to build up beneath the skin. This creates an ideal environment for bacteria, which then ultimately leads to acne. Severe acne can lead to the formations of pits and scars on the face, which may be difficult to get rid of. Although this is not a serious health condition, severe acne can lead to a loss in self confidence and can leave a person feeling depressed and dejected.

Although acne cannot be cured altogether, the frequency of the outbreaks can be controlled by following a few simple home remedies.

 Home Remedies for Acne

Mix together cinnamon and honey to make a thick paste. Apply a thin layer of this paste on your face at bedtime; rinse it off the following morning with lukewarm water. Take a handful of mint leaves and mash them. Extract the juice out of the mashed leaves and apply it in a liberal manner, over the concerned area. The application has to be let on overnight and washed off the next morning. Aloe vera gel is also considered to be excellent for treating this condition. Take a small piece of an aloe leaf and slice it in half. Scoop out the gel from the leaf and apply a generous layer all over your face. Let this application dry for about 15-20 minutes, after which rinse it off with cold water. This remedy if performed 3 times a week will yield positive results.

Mix together fine oatmeal powder and natural yogurt, so as to form a thick paste. This paste should then be applied on to the face. Let it dry naturally for 10-15 minutes after which you can wash it off with cold water. Mash one over ripe tomato and apply the mashed pulp onto your face. Allow the application to stay on for an hour and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This remedy is also considered to be beneficial for this condition.
