Treat Hyeitial Hernia

The protrusion of the upper stomach into the chest cavity is referred to as esophageal hiatus or hiatus hernia. This protrusion happens through the cavity of diaphragm. It is a common condition, seen in individuals in the age of 60. Sometimes, the movement results in complete entrapment of the stomach above the diaphragm.

They are categorized into two, namely fixed type and sliding type. The fixed type hernia results in movement of a part of the stomach into the chest cavity. The sliding type, as the name indicates results in the movement of the stomach, due to pressure.

The junction between esophagus and stomach slides due to the pressure. Typical symptoms of hiatus hernia are hiccups, swallowing difficulties, chest pain, heartburn, belching and coughing. Stoppage of circulation to a part of the stomach results in strangulated hiatal hernia. Obesity, smoking, straining due to constipation, congenital defects, lifting heavy objects, heredity, poor posture frequent bending and persistent coughing are the contributing factors for hiatus hernia. Alcohol, caffeinated beverages, fried foods, chocolates, peppermint and large meals are avoided. Reduce excess weight. Proper posture and exercise prove beneficial. Meals just before bed are better avoided. Take the guidance of your gastroenterologist for further guidance.
