Home remedies for tinea versicolor

Tinea versicolor is not a serious or permanent disease and it's non-contagious. It is caused by fungal infection and it affects only the top layer of the skin.
  • You can apply some antifungal cream 2 or 3 times a day.


  • Antidandruff shampoo contains selenium sulfide. You can apply it on the skin to treat tinea versicolor disease.
  • Regular bath will remove the dead cells and skin and cure infection. You can also take bath 2 or 3 times a day in the summer season.
  • Keep your skin dry and clean. Regularly wash your clothes, undergarments and bed clothes. Do not share your creams or clothes with other members of the family.
  • Yoghurt prevents the spread of fungus by maintaining bacteria level as it contains acidophilus. Increase the intake of this natural home remedy to treat the disease effectively.
  • Chewing 1 or 2 cloves of garlic will also help as garlic is an anti-fungal agent and treats fungus.
  • Avoid white rice, sugar and flour. Follow a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables.
  • You can use baby powder to keep the skin dry.
  • Do not panic if your natural skin color does return immediately after the infection has been treated. This disease can reoccur and skin color is restored slowly.
