Diet Advice for Peptic Ulcer
Peptic ulcers are open sores in the stomach or duodenum lining. An appropriate diet is very essential to treat peptic ulcer to avoid any kind of gastric irritation and excessive acid secretion.
Here are some of the dietary guidelines that are beneficial to cure peptic ulcers by reducing reflux and stomach acid.
First of all make sure that you eat less and in equal intervals of time. Don't indulge yourself in overeating or avoid periods of hunger.
Chew food slowly and allow each and every single bite to digest.
Learn to manage stress especially while eating.
Incorporate more of low fat foods such as fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables in your diet.
Maintain a gap of minimum 3 hours between your last meal and bedtime. Eating anything just before going to bed can result in secretion of gastric acid.
High protein diet including milk, cheese, meat and egg is also beneficial for peptic ulcers.
Restrict intake of caffeine, citrus products, tomatoes, chocolates and sodas. These foods increase the secretion of gastric acid.
Milk and cream feedings are useful for neutralizing stomach acids and producing a lower pH.
You can even consume over the counter antacids one hour after meal and three hours prior to sleep. This will help in preventing secretion of gastric or stomach acids.
