Leucoderma is a condition that is caused due to a pigmentation disorder. Also referred to as vitiligo, it is identified by the appearance of white discolored patches on the skin. When a person suffers from this condition, there is a gradual loss of melanin; the pigment which gives our skin its color.

A loss of melanin, thus leave the skin looking discolored. Leucoderma is not a contagious disease and is not transmitted through contact or touch. This condition tends to be more common among women as compared to men and generally occurs on the hands, arms, face, neck and back. Acute and chronic gastric disorders, excessive mental stress, genetics, burn injuries and typhoid fever are some of the causes of this condition.

Here are a few home remedies that you could implement to treat this condition. Red clay, the type found on river banks and hill slopes, is said to be highly effective for this particular condition. This clay should be mixed in equal quantities (ratio of 1:1) with fresh ginger juice. This mixture should then be applied on the patches once a day. The ginger juice acts as a stimulant, while the copper present in the red clay is said to restore the skins color to some extent. Soak a teaspoon of psoralea seeds in a bowl of freshly extracted ginger juice for three days. After the stipulated time frame, dry the seeds and then grind them into a thin powder. A gram of this powder should be had, along with a glass of warm milk on a daily basis for a month or two. A paste of the powder can also be applied onto the patches.

Mix together 100 grams each of cucumber juice and alfalfa juice. This concoction should be had twice a day on a regular basis. It is known to work well on this condition. Grind a tablespoon of black gram into a thin powder and add a few drops of water to make a fine paste. This should then be applied onto the white patches twice a day. Avoid bottled or tinned foods, products made from white flour, denatured cereals such as pearled barley and polished rice, condiments, sugar, alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea. A well balanced diet that consists of green vegetables, fresh fruits, grains, seeds and nuts is recommended. Consume plenty of figs and walnuts as they have been found to be beneficial for this condition.
