Causes of Diarrhea
Diarrhea is the health condition characterized by loose, watery stools. Diarrhea is mainly caused bacterial, viral or parasitic infection that enters our body through contaminated food and drinking water.
The most common bacteria that enter our body through unhygienic food and water are Campylobacter, Shigella, Salmonella and Escherichia coli.
Viruses such as rotavirus, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, Norwalk virus and viral hepatitis are also responsible for causing diarrhea. When you intake unhygienic food and water, these bacteria enter the stomach and hampers the normal functioning of the digestive system.
Some people have immunity that can't tolerate certain food components such as lactose in milk. This lactose converts into an inactive form and results in diarrhea. Parasites Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Cryptosporidium can also result in diarrhea. These parasites like bacteria and virus enter the body through contaminated food and water. These settle down in the digestive tract and hinder the activities and functions of the digestive system.
Medications such as antibodies, cancer drugs, antacids and blood pressure medicines are also said to cause diarrhea. Some people cause diarrhea after gall balder surgery and some as a symptom of irritable bowel syndrome.
