Natural Cures for Burns The thumb rule for burns is if you are an adult and the burn is less than the size of a silver dollar, you can try and treat it at home. It would then count as a first degree burn. If it is worse than this, then please consult a doctor.
- As soon as you burn yourself, soak a cloth in some whole milk and use it as a compress on the burn
- Wash the area in cool not cold water. Ice cold water may just end up killing more cells and causing more damage to an already tender area
- Apply the juice of an aloe vera leaf to the burn 3-4 times a day. This could help decrease time to heal
- Take a Vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C helps the body heal and also helps prevent infection.
- Once the burn begins to heal, a little bit you can try applying some Vitamin E oil or you can break a Vitamin E capsule and apply the liquid to the burnt area. This will help it heal and can also prevent scarring to some degree
- Consider taking a zinc supplement. Not only is it good for skin on the whole it may have some benefits in increasing healing time.
It is probably not a good idea to apply ice or butter to the area as traditional wisdom suggests as both may cause more harm than good.
