Treatment for chronic rheumatism



Chronic rheumatism is a disorder of the joints. It produces a thickening and contraction of fibrous structures and can be quite painful. It may interfere with motion and cause significant disability.

Some known natural remedies for chronic rheumatism are:

  • Include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet. Try and reduce your intake of white bread, refined cereals, tea, coffee alcohol and spicy foods.
  • Raw potato juice is one of the best known remedies for rheumatism. Grate a raw potato and squeeze out its juice. Drink one or two teaspoonfuls of this juice before every meal.
  • Potato skin is also said to be good for rheumatism. The skin is rich in mineral salts that are said to be good for removing excess acid from the body. Potato peelings should be boiled in water and this water should be filtered and stored. One can take 3-4 glasses of this decoction every day.
  • You can take celery in its raw vegetable form or make an infusion out of its seeds. Make a concentrated infusion of the seeds and take 5-10 drops of it with hot water before every meal.
  • You can also take the juice of 2-3 lemons every day. N
  • You can grind up a few green stalks of rhubarb with equal quantities of sugar and consume 3-4 teaspoonfuls every day.
  • Walnuts are also said to be of benefit in rheumatism, but should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.

Other methods to give pain relief include:

  • Applying hot compresses to the affected area
  • Taking a hot tub bath
  • Bathing the affected area in hot water containing Epsom salts
  • Wrapping up warmly in the cold and avoiding damp musty areas
