Home Remedies for Earache

The biggest pain allayer is tepid, damp heat close to the ear. A lukewarm compressor, for example a hand towel or thick cloth squeezed well in heated water and placed against the ear brings about the best and most prompt relief. Keep dipping the cloth or the towel in hot water time and time again as the cloth cools down.

The reason being that the more frequently you use the hot towel method the better the relief for the ear ache. Another better and more effective option, without the hassle and mess of water and towels is the use of a hot water bottle or heating pad. A hot water bottle wrapped in a towel also makes for a good compress.

A home remedy used by many old folks is to use a warm plate for relieving aches. Take an oven safe plate and warm it well. Wrap this plate around a towel or a long cloth and place it on your ear that's causing the pain. Be careful to see that the plate provides warm comforting relief and not a hot feeling. You could also try warming some mineral oil or garlic oil and adding a couple of drops in the ear. The oil should be warm to the touch and preferably body temperature. However if you suspect a perforated ear drum or a wound inside your ear, refrain from putting the oil in your ear.
