Blood in stools advice Blood in stool or while passing a stool is never considered normal and can be due to a variety of reasons. Some causes might be harmless and temporary while others can be sign for a serious underlying problem like piles, hemorrhoids, anal fissure, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular bleeding, and peptic ulcer or simply due to any undigested food pigment or unabsorbed iron supplements. Consult a specialist (gastroenterologist) to investigate the cause and treat the cause, as blood in stool is rarely normal.
Include lots of fiber in the diet to make the stool consistency soft and avoid any pressure on the rectal veins. This can be done in the form of whole grains and cereals, loads of fruits and vegetables and sprouts. The color of the blood would also indicate the cause, for example if the color is dark red then it can be due to some intestinal bleeding or if the color of the blood is bright red then it can be due to some anal fissure or hemorrhoids.
