I am a lady weighing 72 kgs with a big belly. My height is 5ft. I want to reduce my belly.

Weight loss and belly reduction tips 

According to your height your ideal body should not be more than 47-48 kg which means you need to lose the extra 24-25 kg which you have gained. Gradually lose your weight with the help of diet and exercise and avoid any crash or fad diets. Keep the following simple tips in mind to lose weight and keep it at bay –

  • Avoid taking your body to the state of starving state as this will ultimately lead to excess food consumption and in turn calories.


    Instead have small meals at frequent intervals.
  • Eat slowly and chew each bite thoroughly take 20-25 minutes to finish your meal, that gives our body time to tell us that it is full before we've eaten more than we need.
  • Avoid simple sugars and processed or refined carbohydrates as this is a contributing factor for large belly.


    Choose healthy options like whole cereals grains and its products, sprouts, pulses, fresh fruits and vegetables, skimmed milk, low-fat yoghurt, egg white and fish. Cut down on other junk foods, fried or oily preparations, carbonated beverages, sweetened drinks, colas and sodas.
  • Eating salads is a healthy option, but don't replace your meals only with salads, and be careful with salad dressings like mayonnaise that is high in fat.
  • The most important nutrient that is always forgotten is water. Drink sufficient water daily to keep yourself well hydrated.
  • Keep in mind ‘fat free' or ‘sugar free' products do not mean calorie free. Read the food labels carefully before any food item you consume.
  • Physical activity or exercise is a very important criterion to remain fit and lose weight. Just a simple brisk walk for 40-45 minutes or stretching exercises for lower body and belly will help.
