Advice on Alum

There is no real formula for using alum — you can either apply the powder on your feet, or mix it with some water and then apply the solution. If alum is available as a chunk rather than as powder, then you can dip the chunk in water and apply it to your feet, or break off a piece, dissolve it in water, and then apply the solution.

However, if your feet smell unpleasant, you are probably suffering from a fungal infection of the feet.

In this case, alum will not help much, or will at the most be a superficial and temporary solution. You have not mentioned inflammation, itching, or any other symptoms, so your infection is most probably quite mild. In addition to alum, try applying a solution of vinegar and water to your feet a couple of times a day.

You should also wash your feet regularly and dry them thoroughly after this, as moisture helps fungal infections to thrive. Make sure that your feet are dry before you wear your socks and shoes. You should also change your socks regularly. At least for the next month, try to change your socks twice a day. It will also help if you can alternate between two pairs of shoes.
