Vaginal irritation advice Vaginal itching can cause an uneasy irritation of the skin near the vulva and vagina. The common causes for vaginal itching and irritation includes use of chemical irritants like petroleum jelly, sprays, foams, ointments, creams, douches, fabric softeners, vaginal yeast infection, vaginitis due to some sexually transmitted disease, menopause and stress. It would be wise to visit a specialist to diagnose the exact cause for your condition.
Remember the following points to ease your condition -
- Wear soft, clean, comfortable cotton panties and avoid scratching or irritating the swollen red area.
- Hot compresses would also help. Take a cotton cloth, dip it in hot water and squeeze to remove excess water.
Apply this hot cloth on the vulva, wash and repeat. - If you have yeast infection then include acidophilus in the diet in the form of yoghurt, buttermilk or yoghurt. You can also dab a cotton ball in yoghurt and apply to the area with yeast infection 15 minutes before bathing.
