Fatty liver advice

Fatty liver as the name suggests is simply accumulation of fat in the liver. The other term used for it is steatosis. Liver is the hub organ of the body and is involved in the metabolism of fat and many other important functions.

In fatty liver, liver can not metabolize fat effectively leading to accumulation of fat in the liver. Obesity, alcohol, diabetes, high blood triglycerides, certain illness, malnutrition, excess amounts of vitamin A and use of certain drugs (valproic acid and corticosteroids) are some of the contributing risk factors for fatty liver. Your weight according to your height is not a problem and neither have you drunk alcohol.

Fatty liver can cause no damage as such, but when not controlled or treated, the excess build-up of fat in the liver cells can cause liver inflammation and the condition can even lead to NASH that is nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. It is very important to treat the underlying cause to treat the fatty liver. Consult a specialist to know the exact cause for it and also discuss your medications with him.
