Urinary tract infection advice

Thurs afternoon I had surgery for uterine polyps. I could drink no water after 6 AM Thurs AM. By 5 PM Thursday I had painful urination and a full bladder feeling with little or no results. Did my surgery cause my infection, as I believe it did?
