Natural remedies for athletes foot

Unlike common perception, athletes foot is not restricted to only athletes or sportsmen, but is a common fungal infection that can affect anybody who usually wears closed shoes and visits damp places like the swimming pool area and locker rooms. The fungus that causes this infection, lives of dead skin cells found commonly on feet, particularly between toes and thrives in humid places. Athletes foot can be transferred if you wear the socks or shoes of an infected person and even through pets that may carry the fungus on their fur.

Often confused with other skin conditions, due to its common symptoms of inflamed skin with cracks, cuts and blisters, it is necessary to diagnose it correctly before starting treatment.

Tea-tree oil known for its anti-fungal properties can be used to prepare a spray with Aloe Vera gel, which should be sprayed on the affected area twice a day and allowed to dry completely before wearing any footwear. Direct application of 4-6 drops of tea-tree oil on the affected area for two-three weeks also works wonders.

Alternately you could also apply grapefruit seed extract on the affected area. You could also soak your feet in a solution of water and vinegar (in a ratio of 4:1) twice a day, or rub baking soda between the toes and wash off after fifteen minutes to keep your feet hygienic and free of fungus.
