Kidney Infection Home Treatment

Kidney is a bean shaped organ commonly infected with glomerulonephritis or bacterial pyelonephritis. Glomerulonephritis occurs due to secondary infections, such as malaria, measles, hepatitis, syphilis and pneumonia.

Acute form of the disease involves the inflammation of the glomeruli.

Chronic glomerulonephritis is accompanied by scarring and sclerosis of the tissues. Renal failure is the ultimate aspect of concern.

Bacterial infection, causing inflammation of the kidneys is referred to as pyelonephritis.

Stones, tumors, trauma, pregnancy, diabetes and urinary tract infection aggravate the situation. Antibiotics and rest are important methods of treatment. This is continued, based on the type of infection. Elimination of the bacteria is the ultimate idea of treatment of pyelonephritis. Long term antibiotic therapy is recommended, in case of obstruction and recurrent infections.

Avoid carbonated beverages. Cranberry juice is an effective remedy. Supplements in the form of gels are also recommended, as an alternative. Adequate intake of water helps in flushing off toxins.

Quinolones and amoxicillin are antibiotics considered for treatment, under the guidance of a nephrologist. Completion of the course of antibiotics is essential. Structural abnormality or any other underlying conditions results in recurrent infection.
