The genital areas of the body are generally odor free, however sometimes due to a chemical imbalance in the body or due to hygienic reasons, a person's genital areas may have an unpleasant odor. Normally vaginal odor is most likely caused due an imbalance in the pH level, which causes the overgrowth of the bacteria known as gardnerella vaginalis — which in turn causes the unpleasant odor. Although the effects of vaginal odor are can be embarrassing, it is not permanent and can be treated by taking some simple measures.




The first step is to keep a track of what you eat, drink and smoke, as it has an effect on the internal processes of your body. Consuming large amounts of alcohol, eating very spicy foodstuffs and putting your self through large amounts of emotional and mental stress have been found to instigate the occurrence of vaginal odor. Therefore, eat a well balanced diet and avoid binging on alcohol and spicy food. If in spite of following these measures you do not find any relief, then try using plain yoghurt (through the means of direct insertion into the vagina) once a week as it has been found to produce results. However, it is advisable to consult your doctor before doing this, as it can be harmful to your health and should be used only as a last resort.
