Remedies for Stretch marks Stretch marks are, as the name suggests, marks left by excessive stretching of the skin, and are not a serious problem. Stretch marks occur when the collagen beneath the skin gets damaged due to a sudden gain of fat or muscle, and can happen anywhere on the body. This also causes the formation of red lines, which then fade to form whitish scars over time.
The best way to reduce the formation of stretch marks is to avoid putting on weight, reduce the rate at which you lose weight, and also massaging the area in which the red lines form with an oil or cream rich in vitamin E. Eating a well balanced diet that includes nuts and seeds (as they are high in zinc) has also been found to reduce stretch marks. Another home remedy that is useful is the application of a paste made up of gram flour, a pinch of turmeric and fresh cream.
Apply the paste and leave it on for about 10-15 minutes then remove it by gently rubbing it off. If your stretch marks are formed due to pregnancy then they will take longer to heal as the skin has been under immense pressure. Trying to speed up the process will not yield effective results.
