Information on coffee enema
An enema is a procedure in which liquids (typically water) are inserted into the rectum or colon through the anus. Enemas are used to treat constipation, encopresis, and, less commonly, for erotic purposes. Enemas were were used more frequently before the 19th century, when they were often referred to as clysters.
Today the efficacy of enemas is questioned, but many people still feel that they benefit from them. In connection with medical procedures, an enema is mainly used as a bowel stimulant, as a means to relive constipation and fecal impaction.
There is something known as a coffee enema, and as the name suggests, coffee is the key ingredient in the solution used.
This form of enema has been used for a long time to detoxify the liver, and is basically a low volume enema that remains only in the sigmoid colon. Production of an enzyme that facilitates de-toxification of the liver is stimulated by the alkaloids present in the caffeine. This form of enema is also being explored as an alternative treatment for cancer.
Although not very frequent, problems sometimes do arise when performing enemas. These can be serious, including perforation of the walls of the intestines, heart failure, and death. It is therefore important to seek medical advice before undertaking this form of an enema.
