Information on blood in stool

Blood in the stools is often seen in cases of acute constipation. A vast majority of individuals suffer from problematic bowel movements at some point in their lives. Constipation can be caused by various factors such as insufficient fiber in the diet, extreme stress, increasing age, and/or irregular schedules.

In order to improve the motility of the stools through the intestines try any or all of the following easy-to-implement techniques.

Drink a tall glass of warm water in which the juice of one teaspoon lemon has been added. Avoid substituting other warm fluids such as tea or coffee. These may cause a bowel movement immediately, but worsen the constipation and consequent bleeding in the long run. Stick to water and/or herbal teas such as chamomile or lavender.

Adding raw fruits and vegetables in your diet increases the amount of fibre. Toss together lettuce, finely grated carrots, chopped celery, and diced tomatoes. Dress with juice of half a lemon, a pinch of pepper and salt. Mix in half a teaspoon of sesame seeds and some chopped dried prunes. Try this and other salads using apples, strawberries, oranges, grapefruits and other fruits and vegetables along with the skin wherever possible.
