Yeast infection treatment

Though not restricted to women, yeast infections usually infect women of a child-bearing age. A yeast infection is usually caused by the Candida albicans fungus which grows in the dark and moist places of the human body, such as the underarms, toes, and the genitals, especially the vagina. The spread of yeast is usually controlled by bacteria naturally found in the body but when this mechanism breaks down, the acidity level of the vagina decreases and results in a yeast infection.

Causes of the infection include sustained use of some antibiotics and contraceptive pills. You could also have gotten the infection by not using enough lubrication during intercourse or by having sex with someone with a yeast infection.

You can treat a yeast infection in many ways but the first and simplest thing to do is to keep the infected area clean, cool, and dry.

Wash the genital area with water and ensure that you remove all traces of any soap or bath salts that may be causing or aggravating the infection. You should use unscented hygiene products. Ensure that your blood sugar levels are under control and that your immunity is not suffering. Exercise and eat properly and regularly, and ensure that you get enough rest. You should also quit smoking and consuming alcohol. Apply tea tree oil on the infected area to gain some relief.
