There are several kitchen remedies for the common cold that provide relief. The most important thing to do when you have a cold is load up on the body's supply of Vitamin C. This means an increase in the diet of fruits such as oranges, strawberries, cantaloupes, grapefruit, guavas, kiwi fruits and mango.
If you can, try to eat fresh Indian gooseberries (indian gooseberry) the richest source of Vitamin C. vegetables to consume in large quantities are tomatoes, peppers, peas, sprouts and squashes.
To combat the drop in your immune system, you can take Echinacea, an herb that boosts the body's immunity. Crushed garlic and onion juice relieves congestion and helps fight minor infections.
In order to loosen phlegm, the best solution is to steam your face with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the water. This will open up your sinuses and allow you to breathe better. A paste of honey, fresh ground ginger and holy basil can loosen up mucus. Steep equal quantities of cloves, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom and holy basil, with a dash of tea leaves. This concoction should be sipped hot. Chewing on a clove also gradually helps loosen phlegm. A fresh vegetable broth, at least three cups a day, will help with the runny nose. Tea with ginger added to it is one of the most effective remedies for colds.

Cold is caused by a virus infection, which manifests itself in the nose. To identify a common cold is to see if one is suffering from running nose, sore throat, headache feverishness and hoarseness. The following remedies can easily be followed at home to cure cold.
- Zinc and Vitamin C can help cure cold.
- Having 5 to 6 raw garlic’s per day also eases the suffering. If one cannot have, raw garlic then mixing them in salad will also work but the point is to eat them raw.
- Ginger juice with equal quantities of honey can also bring immense relief or instead just have ginger tea.
- A hot cinnamon drink stimulates circulation and results in sweating. This drink will help resolve cold or kind of respiratory infection.
- Plenty of rest with lots of green tea will also work wonders.
- Taking steam daily can help alleviate the nasal blockage that comes with cold.
- A nasal spray prescribes by any doctor can also cure common cold.
- Yoga also is a great alternative to cure cold. The following exercises if done regularly will not only cure cold but will keep its occurrence at bay. 1. The cat pose 2. The shoulder stand 3. The bow 4. The corpse pose.
