Alternative remedies for chicken pox
Chicken pox is amongst the most commonly occurring childhood diseases and usually affects young children. Having the disease once usually provides a lifelong immunity to it and the severity of the attack is somewhat linked to the age of the child – the younger the child, the milder the attack. There are many things that you can do to ease your child's discomfort.
Ensure that you bathe your child often with a little soda bicarbonate in the water. This will reduce the itching. You can also bathe your child's skin with a cool cloth.
Bathing your child with oatmeal will also help reduce the itch. Since your child is so young, you must ensure that she does not try to stand because she may slip and hurt herself. Although there is no evidence to suggest that calamine lotion is useful with chicken pox, it is widely used and can be safely applied on the sores to ease any soreness.
Chicken pox is highly contagious so you must ensure that the infected child is kept away from the rest of your children. The child suffering from chickenpox is usually contagious from one to two days before the rash appears on the body until all blisters have crusted over and formed scabs. This process may take anywhere from 5 to 10 days. You should remember that the incubation period for chickenpox is anywhere between 10-21 days and that disease resolves itself usually in about two weeks.
