Health information on diverticulitis
The diet plan for diverticulitis, a condition wherein tiny grape-like sacks form along the outer wall of the colon and actually swell up to become painful, is actually quite simple. It may be a complete change of lifestyle, however. The primary cause for this problem is a predominantly meat-based diet, with little or no fruits and vegetables in it and an excess of processed food.
In order to add fiber to your diet, you need to switch to fresh leafy green vegetables, fresh fruit and lots of liquid. It is a must to avoid any kind of processed food, since it lacks fiber and adds to the discomfort caused by your condition. Fruit should be consumed with skins on wherever possible.
This will facilitate your bowel movements and ease them. Whole grains are highly recommended. A switch to whole grain bread as opposed to white bread is also a must. Breakfast should usually consist of oatmeal or bran flakes, accompanied with a fruit. Apples are the best fruit to eat in this condition. It is always better to eat a whole fruit than to have juices, since fibers are typically strained out of juices. The best fluid to overdose on is water. In order to see results, please remember it will take at least a couple of weeks to a month.
