Acne can be very troublesome and embarrassing though it is a fairly common skin condition. It is caused by changes in skin structures by the stimulation of androgenic hormones. Acne occurs as a result of multiple factors.
It could be genetic, on account of hormonal changes (during a menstrual cycle or puberty), on account of sebaceous glands that are hyperactive, dead skin cells blocking pores, or exposure to certain kinds of chemicals or medications. Acne mostly affects the face and upper neck, but the back, shoulders and chest may be affected as well.
Though in severe cases you may need to seek the advice of a specialist, the most common form of acne (acne vulgaris) can be controlled by regulating your diet and caring for your skin with some natural remedies.
Drink plenty of water and include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet to help control acne breakouts. Avoid food which is oily and fatty. Vitamin A aids in reducing sebum production thereby controlling acne. Carrots are a rich source of Vitamin A- also a powerful antioxidant.
Proper skin care is essential to cure acne. Avoid squeezing your pimples as this will only lead to more acne, scars and black spots and infections. Make sure to remove all your make up before going to bed. Make-up left for too long on your face clogs pores and leads to acne. Keep hair off the face at all times. Hair contains oils that aggravate the skin and cause acne so if you have long hair or acne make sure you keep it clipped back. Avoid skin-care products that are oil based as this will aggravate your skin. Acne-prone skin requires mild cleansers that are water based. For back acne and acne on the shoulder, it is essential to keep your clothing loose and airy. Cotton clothing is ideal in the case of back and shoulder acne.
Mix the juice of one lemon with the same quantity of rose water and apply it on your face for about thirty minutes before washing it off. Carry on this application for about fifteen days. Another effective natural remedy for acne is a paste made with milk, one teaspoon of sandalwood powder and one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Honey is an excellent cure for acne as it is not only antibacterial but also cures skin blemishes. Apply a mask of honey on your face twice a week to curb acne.

Acne, also commonly known as pimples, is a skin disorder that is commonly seen in teenagers who are going through a phase of hormonal imbalance. However, acne can also be seen in adults beyond teenage years, mostly due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, irregular menstrual cycle, or starting/stopping oral contraceptives. Acne can appear in any of the following forms: blackheads or whiteheads, which usually appear as a bump at the place of clogged hair follicles; papules, which are usually tender red bumps; pustules, which look similar to papules but contain white pus at the head; nodules, which are bigger and more painful lumps appearing beneath the skin; and cysts, which are boil-like bumps beneath the skin and are filled with pus. The exact cause of acne is not very clear, but some of the usual factors that lead to acne are: overactive sebaceous glands, buildup of dead cells at the hair follicles, and bacterial infection. Whenever sebaceous glands produce more oil and the skin pores are clogged with dead skin, tiny bumps appear on the skin surface. Further, bacterial infection may happen at these clogged surfaces and cause lesions.
Here are some common home remedies for acne that you can try out.
- Wash you face with aloe vera gel 2-3 times every day. Aloe vera gel is a natural cleanser and helps heal acne by cleaning the clogged pores.
- Diluted tea tree oil can also be used for washing your face. You can mix tea tree oil in water while washing your face or you can also rub your face with a cotton ball soaked in diluted tea tree oil. Besides cleansing your skin, tea tree oil also acts as a natural antibiotic.
- Mix oatmeal with yogurt and make a paste. Apply this paste on your skin and leave until it dries. Then, wash off your face thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Mix gram flour with lemon juice, honey, and lukewarm water and make it into a thick paste. Apply this paste on your skin and let it dry naturally. After the paste has dried, wash your face with lukewarm water.
Besides these home remedies, you should also ensure that you keep your skin clean by washing regularly with mild soap water. Do not let dirt and grease settle on your skin for long. You should also ensure that you do not pop the pimples as it may spread the infection and also leave permanent marks on your skin.
You should also ensure that you follow a healthy diet that includes lot of green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and whole grains. And finally, do not forget to drink adequate amount of water throughout the day.

Acne natural treatment
Acne is either age related or caused by dead skin cells that refuse to shed and clog pores, thereby not allowing the skin to breathe freely. Depending on your age and hygiene levels, you can judge which category you fall under. The best solution for this problem is exfoliation. Dampen the body and use sugar and oil with a pasty consistency to scrub the affected area. Wash off with mild herbal soap and warm water. The soap must also be applied and scrubbed thoroughly. Scrubbing provides fresh, clean and glowing skin, and open pores that help your body to pump out toxins more effectively. The pumped up blood circulation also helps tremendously in reducing the oiliness of skin which leads to acne.
To keep acne at bay, make a concoction of dried and ground orange peels and yogurt and apply this one the face. Leave on for about 30 minutes, or till it dries, and then wash with water. This will rejuvenate your skin and also help fight acne. If you add a few drops of lime juice to this mix, it will help in disinfecting your skin as well. It is always useful to follow these routines for at least a month before you see concrete results. You must also try to eat fiber-rich foods, as these help clear up the skin considerably.
