Kidney infection home remedies

Kidney infections can be extremely serious, and it is best not to treat yourself with either home remedies or over the counter medicines, at least for not longer than a week. Permanent kidney damage is life threatening, so it is best to be cautious. If the infection lasts longer than a week, or if it tends to recur, it is absolutely essential that you visit a doctor.

The problem may be something other than an infection, or there may be some underlying condition that is causing the infection, and this condition will need to be addressed.

Meanwhile, one extremely simple home remedy for both kidney and urinary tract infections is to drink lots of water. You should drink eight to ten glasses of water a day.

This will flush your system. Another common remedy for urinary tract infections is cranberry juice. This works for kidney infections as well, as does blueberry juice. However, these might only address the symptoms — the irritation and burning sensation that you experience with an infection — without really getting rid of the bacteria themselves. If you find that you need to keep drinking cranberry or blueberry juice to ease your symptoms, it means that medical treatment is necessary.
