Home remedies for colic pain

Massage your baby with mustard oil in which a few garlic cloves has been boiled. You can also boil 1 tsp of carom seeds (Bishop’s Weed) or 3 or 4 clove spices in the oil. Use olive oil alternatively to massage your baby from head to foot. This regulates the bowel movements, helps in releasing gas and prevents any form of cramps all of which cause pain in the body. Massaging 3 times daily for the first 6 months is ideal and then you can reduce it to twice a day after that till the age of 1 year.

Give 3 to 4 ounces of herbal teas prepared from chamomile, catnip, ginger or peppermint. They are safe and can be given to supplement the meals but provide your baby with adequate nutrition.

After feeding the child, put him on your shoulders and make him burp. Gently rub him on the back to aid this and you should do this for at least 15 minutes. In between the feeds, make him burp for at least 1 or 2 minutes. This is done to reduce the amount of air that goes in his body while feeding.

Warm your baby with a warming device or a warm water bottle or give him a warm bath to relax the muscles but be careful not to make it too hot for him.
