Tips to get rid of eye puffiness

Puffiness under the eyes is essentially swelling of the tissues in this area due to fluid build up. Puffiness is not always a sign that something is wrong. For some people, a small amount of puffiness is normal, and it is not possible to get rid of it entirely.

Factors such as age can also cause puffiness that cannot be reversed. Crying also causes puffiness, although this of course is only temporary. However, other factors that cause puffiness, such as excess of alcohol or tobacco, certain drugs, fatigue, lack of sleep, allergies, fluid retention, dehydration, an excess of salt, and eye infections, are factors that can be addressed. If you think that any of these factors may be responsible for your under eye puffiness, you should try to address them. Some factors, such as allergies and eye infections, will require medical assistance – not necessarily medication, but at least the advice or diagnosis of your doctor.

Once you start tackling the underlying cause of the puffiness, you will start to see results in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, some simple home remedies will provide temporary relief. Placing cucumber slices on your eyes is among the most commonly recommended home remedies for this problem, and is also the most effective. Cucumber is a natural astringent, and in addition the slices also act as a cold compress.
