Home cures for ear infection Ear infections can be of several kinds. Before you try to treat a ear infection, you should know which part of the ear is affected and understand its cause. Ear infections can affect the outer ear and ear canal, the middle ear, or the inner ear.
Infections of the inner ear are severe but relatively rare. Infections of the outer ear are common but usually mild and can easily be treated by using simple home remedies. These are bacterial or fungal infections that result in inflammation of the skin of the ear canal.
Some remedies that you can use for such infections are garlic juice, warm olive oil, and a mixture of vinegar and water.
With infections of the middle ear, it is advisable that you get treated by a doctor. These infections can be either bacterial or viral, or simply a collection of fluid inside the middle ear space, and treatment needs to be provided accordingly. In some cases the infection can also spread or lead to other complications such as meningitis, damage to the ear drum, or even death in rare, severe cases. In addition, pain inside the ear does not always necessarily indicate an infection. Several diseases, including cancer, can cause pain inside the ear.
