Piles is a condition caused due to inflammation and swelling of the veins in the anus and lower rectum. It is caused mainly due to an increase in pressure on the veins in the concerned area. Also known as Hemorrhoids, they can either be internal, which are neither seen nor felt, or external which can be seen outside the anus.

Piles often a reason for discomfort and embarrassment can lead to difficulty in passing stools. The primary causes of Piles are low fiber diet and severe chronic constipation, though it can also be caused due to hereditary reasons and sometimes during pregnancy and even old age.

A classic home remedy is daily consumption of 3-4 figs soaked overnight in water.

You could dissolve a ½ tsp of a mixture of equal portions of powdered unroasted black cumin seeds and roasted cumin seeds. Consumed daily this provides much relief, as radish juice taken twice a day. One can also apply a paste of white radish and milk to the affected areas. A ripe banana boiled in 1 cup milk and consumed 3-4 times a day also helps in reducing the effect of Piles. A traditional Indian cure is drinking a glass of buttermilk with ¼ carom seed powder and a pinch of salt.
