Information on tongue bump

Sores and bumps on the tongue can appear due to a number of reasons and are usually harmless and temporary. However, it’s best to have such things looked at by a doctor or a dentist. Even if there is no associated pain, it is still possible that you require medical attention.

In fact, painless sores and lumps that have no apparent cause are to be feared more than painful ones because they may be cancerous.

If you are sure that you haven’t burnt, bitten, or otherwise damaged your tongue, then you can consider other possibilities. Sometimes an ulcer in another part of your mouth may cause red bumps to appear on your tongue.

Bumps can also be due to an allergy. See if you notice any correlation with any particular foods. Sores on the tongue may also be due to tuberculosis, syphilis, oral herpes, and a number of bacterial or fungal infections. All of these, however, will display other symptoms as well. It is not possible to diagnose any of these diseases based only on the bumps or sores on the tongue. Finally, it is also possible that you are simply referring to the natural projections on your tongue, called papillae. In any case, it would be a good idea to visit your doctor and settle the matter.
