Almost everyone experiences a common cold through the course of their lives. Some experience them as temporary conditions that can be caused by viral, bacterial and fungal reasons. A cold can also be brought on by blowing the nose too much as the pressure can cause bacterial infections inside the nose.
Sticking a foreign object up the nose can also allow bacterial infections to enter the nose. However, since you have mentioned that you have had this cold for about 7 months now, the reasons for your condition are probably quite different. A common cold will generally not last more than 30 days. You seem to be experiencing a chronic or more permanent, cold. Most people that experience very frequent or a chronic cold; very rarely realize that this condition is a result of an infection or growth in the sinus. Chronic sinusitis, as it is medically known, is more likely caused by a buildup of nasal growths called nasal polyps in the sinus or even a deviated septum. If you have chronic sinusitis, you will notice that the discharge from your nose will appear thick and yellow or green, at times running down the back of your throat. Your nose will constantly feel obstructed making it hard for you to breathe through your nose normally; you might even experience a pain or tenderness around your eyes, nose, cheeks and an uncomfortable headache. Your sense of taste may also be severely reduced.
In order to get rid of chronic sinusitis over the long run, you will need to eat healthy. Eat plenty of green vegetables and fruits, salads and cereal. Drink about 2 liters of water a day. Eating raw onions or garlic will open up the nasal congestion and helps considerably in curing sinusitis. Have ginger along with some cinnamon tea by adding in some sugar and milk as well. This has been known to work wonders on nasal congestion. You can also drain you nasal cavities by heating up some water and inhaling the steam from the bowl with a towel draped over your head. Do this for about a minimum of 10 minutes and you will feel much better. Another trusted remedy is to take 5 garlic seeds and soak them in water for some time. Make a paste out of this and inhale the scent. This should help loosen the dry mucus and help you breathe freely. Also increase your intake of fruits, especially mango. Fresh mango juice is very good for sinusitis.

Cold treatment Colds tend to appear worse than they actually are when they affect very small children or babies. Home remedies can however be used to cure practically every symptom that the baby has.
Firstly make sure that the child is warmly dressed/bundled up and stays in a warm room. Avoid cold winds and any place where she will be exposed to draughts and chilly weather. A steam inhalation is what is prescribed for grown ups but as it is difficult to get a baby to do so, keep a basin of boiling water with a few menthol/camphor drops in it near the baby so that she inhales it without the discomfort of an actual inhalation. The basin should be freshened/replenished every hour or two hours. You could also try rubbing camphor on the baby’s chest and back, but make sure that after giving her a rub you wrap her up really well. It is a good idea to do this at bedtime to assure her of some sleep.
Also apply a thin film of petroleum jelly around her nostrils as otherwise the soreness will add to her general discomfort. Though you may not feed your chicken soup, plenty of liquids are still necessary. Orange juice is one alternative, as also lemon juice and honey in warm water.
