Complications of Low Blood Pressure

Low blood pressure may not sound like a serious problem, especially when you consider that most people have serious problems with high blood pressure. Sometimes low blood pressure means that you are in good health—and in many people low blood pressure is very common and nothing to worry about. However, for some people, especially those who have experienced a sudden drop in blood pressure, it means that there could be a health problem.

There can be complications due to low blood pressure. If you are unsure about the common complications due to low blood pressure, then read on for more information.

Low blood pressure is medically described as a blood pressure measurement that falls below 90/60.

As mentioned, this is probably not a problem for many people. Those who are in great physical condition hardly need to worry about low blood pressure--but sudden drops can cause problems, especially if not treated. One common complication includes feeling light headed or dizzy. Some people report feeling nauseous or having headaches when they are light headed. In addition, fainting and injuries relating to falls from being dizzy are also reported from people suffering from low blood pressure. This can be a big problem for the elderly, as bones are often brittle and any fall could lead to disastrous results.

Shock is another noted complication due to low blood pressure, especially a sudden drop in the blood pressure. Those that go into shock will need immediate medical attention. In addition, it is not uncommon for those with low blood pressure to have complications such as chest pains, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat and high fever. Any of these can point to medical problems that need attention.

You should certainly see your doctor and seek medical advice if you suffer from low blood pressure drop coupled with any of these complications.
