Acne is one of the most common skin conditions. While the condition predominantly affects individuals in their teenage years, some people may experience its onset well into their late thirties. There are a number of misconceptions surrounding the condition where a lot of people believe that acne is the result of an unclean lifestyle or the excessive consumption of chocolate and fried foods.
Excessively scrubbing your skin in an attempt to remove any dirt particles that are believed to cause the condition may actually irritate the skin even more – significantly aggravating the condition. There are a number of causes for the onset of the condition. Some of the more common ones include heredity where the condition is passed down through the bloodline, a change in hormonal levels (frequently encountered during adolescence) or dust and dirt present in the air that sticks to our skin, causing a blockage in the pores present on the skin. Once this blockage has developed, the sebum oil that normally flows through these pores starts to build up behind the barrier. During this buildup, a pimple will start to erupt on the skin. The most common human reaction would be to proactively burst the pimple. However, this should be avoided as doing so will only cause the condition to become much worse. Furthermore, if the fluid contained within the pimple is infected, the infection will spread over a larger area of the skin if the pimple is burst.
There are a number of very successful home remedies that will help treat the condition. You could try grinding some nutmeg with unboiled milk and applying it over the affected area for about 1 or 2 hours. The pimples should naturally disappear without leaving as much as a mark on your skin. Another option is to grind some drumstick pods and leaves and mix it with some fresh lime juice and apply it over the pimples. This treatment is also known to help with blackheads and dark patches on the skin. Grinding a few orange peels with some water and applying the paste on the affected areas is likely to be very beneficial. Let the paste act on your skin for about 20 to 30 minutes before you wash it off with some lukewarm water. The application of some grated potato poultice over the affected area of skin is also known to be very effective when dealing with acne. You should also try applying some fresh mint juice over the pimples every night in order to prevent the acne from getting any worse.

Prescription Acne Remedies
Sometimes when you have acne, especially if it is chronic and affects your self esteem, you will want to find something that will clear up your skin. In many cases, over the counter products do not work well and you need something stronger. The good news is that there is help and if you see a dermatologist, he or she can give you prescription strength acne medicine to help you look and feel better. There are many different kinds of acne medication that are available through prescriptions. Your doctor will take a look at your skin and determine which is right for you. Sometimes one type of prescription may be enough, however, many dermatologists will recommend acne treatment that includes more than one prescription.
Acne soaps and cleansers: Your doctor may recommend using a prescription soap or cleanser for your face or for your body depending on your problem area. These usually contain a higher amount of salicylic acid or other acne remedy and will clean and cleanse the skin. Your doctor will probably recommend that you treat and wash the area at least twice a day and after sweating. This is the only way to make sure the area stays clean.
After that, your doctor will probably give you some type of lotion or cream that you will apply to spots on your face or skin. These are usually like Clearasil, but is higher concentrated.
