Teaching Your Teen About Proper Acne Care
Younger teens that are going through puberty start experiencing problems with acne. Some of these kids will be very concerned about their looks, while others could care less about treating the skin. As a parent, you need to take the time to teach your teen about proper skin care to lessen the severity (and embarrassment) of acne.
- Washing the face is important: Of course one of the most important aspects of treating acne and teaching your teen about skin care is washing the face. Your teen should understand that washing the face with a good cleanser is the key to preventing serious acne problems. Find a skin product that your teen can use easily and remind your child to do it both in the morning and at night.
Products such as Neutrogena, and Noxema are good skin products for teens to use. Remember to teach your child to clean the entire face (including the neck and forehead) for maximum prevention. - Teach your teen about diet: Diet will also play a role in acne. If your teen eats a poor diet of high fat and greasy foods, then acne may become a problem. While you can’t control every bite your teen eats, you can encourage healthy eating at home. Remind your teen that their diet (including drinking water) will help clear up acne.
- Teach your teen about good products: You will also want to take the time to teach your teen how to treat acne. Scarring can be a problem, so encourage your teen to treat the acne and not pick or pinch. Many times, teens will pick at their pimples and this could actually cause scarring and inflammation. This will help clear up acne and keep his or her skin looking good.
You can help your teen avoid unsightly blemishes by showing your teen proper skin care techniques.
