ADHD home remedies

I have heard that to help out a child with ADHD that you can give them Fish Oil instead of the prescriptions. That it is works just as good if not better.

Home remedies for ADHD

You are right when you mention that fish oil can be given to those afflicted with ADHD. In-depth investigation has shown that those with ADHD have an inadequacy of essential fatty acids (EFAs). The reasons are varied, any or all. In some cases patients are unable to break down these EFAs adequately, perhaps because their EFA absorption breaks down in the stomach, or because their body demands of EFA are taller than the rest of us. Its, however, not advisable to invalidate prescribed medicines and rely wholly on fish oil as the only treatment for ADHD.

ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) is the primary omega-3 essential fat from which the body makes other omega-3 fats such as EPA and DHA. Among these, DHA is of crucial significance to the brain.

The best source of ALA is flax seed and flax oil. Oily fish such as trout, sardines, mackerel, or herring contain DHA. Fish oil derived from these fish can also be used as a substitute. Care, however, must be taken that the child or patient does not get deficient in other vitamins or minerals. Diet should also be re-arranged to incorporate whole wheat flour, sea salt, and natural sweeteners from stevia, molasses, or dried organic fruit in place of chemically treated sugar.
