Heartburn natural treatment

A well-known folk therapy involving the use of Slippery elm which has been around for years is yet to take root in mainstream culture. The inner bark of slippery elm contains a gelatinous substance that puffs up when mixed with water. This gel-like substance is supposed to coat the esophagus and reduce irritation from heartburn.

Most natural experts also swear by marshmallow root tea. The tea is prepared by adding together a cup of boiling water to a tablespoon of the dried root. This tea should be covered and allowed to steep for over 15 minutes.

Around 3 - 4 cups a day of the strained liquid must be consumed to get maximum benefit of the herb.

A type of licorice without the glycyrrhizin component in it, is also used to treat heartburn. Commonly known as DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) this class of herb without glycyrrhizin brings down the risk of glycyrrhizin-related outcomes such as high blood pressure and water retention and hence is safe for treating heartburn.

Take one or two capsules of dandelion, and blessed thistle an hour before a meal. The medicinal properties in these bitter herbs help to break down oily and rich foods and boost the formation of stomach acid and digestive enzymes.
