Treatment for  cysts

If the cyst appears tiny and obscure, and doesn't hurt or itch and if it isn't red or tender, then you can just leave it alone. The best way to get rid of an obvious cyst is to ignore it completely. Do not attempt to scratch or gouge it out through your own means.

It is not advisable to use your fingernails on it as it may lead to further complication or infection. If the cyst seems to be in a location where it can be easily hurt or scratched at, then cover it with cotton gauze to prevent your nails from touching it.

Check the appearance of the cyst from time to time.

If the cyst shows further development in the form of oozing or appearing redder than before, than it needs immediate attention. A good way to reduce the inflammation of the cyst would be to place a clean cloth dipped in warm tepid water over the cyst as often as possible during the day. This will induce circulation of blood to the cyst region, bringing down the redness.

A broken cyst can cause severe infection especially if the contents oozing out come into contact with the atmosphere. The open wound would need to be cleansed with soap and water, dabbed on with just a dash of hydrogen peroxide on a cotton gauze pad and dressed with an antibacterial lotion. Cover the wound with a fresh cotton pad to keep off dirt.
