Symptoms of menstruation

The tenderness you feel occurs because of natural cycles of your reproductive hormones, oestrogen and progesterone. The quickest way to get relief from this pain is to have a hot shower, running plenty of hot water over the entire chest area. You can use a castor oil compress for relief from the pain.

Fold a cloth into a few layers and soak it with the oil. Put it on the breast, cover it with plastic, and use a hot water bag on it. Try leaving it on for as long as you can.

Stay away from foods that are high in salt, as these will bloat your body further and make the pain worse. Use a strong support bra during this time, preferably with underwires, for minimal movement.

If heat treatment does not work for you, you can try using ice packs on your breasts. This will bring down the inflammation, if any, and provide temporary relief. Research has also revealed that cutting down on caffeine will help in dealing with this pain. You can switch to herbal tea for that painful duration instead. Having a glass of warm milk with some ground cinnamon stirred in also helps in the long term.
