Importance of Diet with Diabetes
Any time you suffer from a medical condition, you can help your self by maintaining a good diet. Diabetes is no different. In fact, it is vital that when you have either Type I or Type II diabetes that you closely monitor the food that you eat at all times.
Your diet can affect the way you feel and may determine whether or not you need to take daily injections of insulin
When you take the time to follow a proper diet for your diabetic condition, you are doing what you can to make sure that you are keeping your blood sugar, or glucose, levels in the right range. Many times, this includes cutting out most refined sugar and carbohydrates in your diet, which can send your glucose levels high.
If you suffer from Type II diabetes, which is often called adult onset diabetes, then your diet will be more important than ever. This is because many of the cases of diabetes are caused by poor diets and lack of exercise. If you are overweight, then you are at risk of developing diabetes. Controlling your diet and getting proper exercise will help you reduce your diabetes risk. The best diet for someone with adult onset diabetes is one that your doctor recommends—and one filled with healthy fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy and lean meats. Bread and pasta are not out of the question, but you will need to watch your portions and opt for whole grain instead of those made with refined products.
Children suffering from Type I diabetes will also need to monitor their diet by reducing the amount of sugar and other refined products they eat. This will help keep their glucose levels at a healthy level.
As you can see, diet is very important to controlling diabetes. When you take the time to control what you eat, you are doing your body a favor.
