Recognizing the Symptoms of Diabetes
When you don’t feel well, you may not always head to the doctor. Sometimes, however, going to the doctor is important, especially if you are showing the symptoms of diabetes. Some symptoms of this disease seem so general that people often go without medical care.
You need to understand how this affects your health. What are the symptoms of diabetes? Here is a closer look.
- Frequent Urination: The need to go to the bathroom frequently is one of the top symptoms of diabetes. This is because there is too either too much, or not enough glucose in your bloodstream. When this happens your body is trying to correct the problem and your kidneys do not function properly. It can result in the urge to visit the bathroom several times a day.
- Excessive Thirst: Those suffering from diabetes often feel thirsty no matter how much they drink. This is quite common and if you are going to the bathroom more than usual, then your body is probably dehydrated.
- Hunger Coupled with Weight Loss: It may seem strange, but you are feeling hungry much of the time and although you are eating, you are losing weight. You may find yourself snacking more, but the scales are going down. This is a classic symptom of diabetes. Your body is using energy to make up for the loss, or over production of glucose. This is true for both types of diabetes.
- Other common symptoms that should alert you include general feelings of fatigue or tiredness and numbing and tingling of the hands and feet. Wounds that do not heal properly can also indicate a problem with diabetes. It is important that you seek the advice of your health care professional if you are showing any of these symptoms and especially if you have more than one symptom.
