Health information on bursitis Bursitis is simply an inflammation of the bursa. Bursa is something like a small sack of oil at each joint in the body that facilitates gliding of joints. A sudden or repetitive movement can inflame the bursa and cause bursitis.
Although it can be a very painful condition, it is curable, provided it is not ignored for prolonged periods of time. The affected area should be massaged with warm olive oil daily. Although olive oil is usually the best cure, if it is not available, you can also use eucalyptus, sesame or tea tree oil for the same purpose.
Ice packs help to bring down the swelling and should be used regularly. Eating an avocado everyday is helpful in this condition, since it is known to fight pain and replenish any lost oily fluids from the body. A warm bath and rest immediately after helps ease the pain. Castor oil can be applied to the affected area. Cover with a cloth and use a hot water bag for relief. A paste of sandalwood oil and rosewater can be applied to the affected area for soothing relief from the pain. If the condition persists beyond a week, it is advisable to consult a doctor and begin with mild exercise or physiotherapy as recommended.
