Insomnia treatment Disturbed or absence of sleep can have a deep impact on both the body and the mind. Some simple techniques that can ameliorate this condition include deep breathing or simple yoga exercises before retiring. This helps both the body and the mind to de-stress and settle down. Following a routine by going to bed and waking up at a set time everyday also creates a sense of routine that may help the body prepare for rest. In order to fall asleep it is important for the body-temperature to drop by a few degrees. Having a warm bath infused with a few drops of essential oils like lavender, ylang-ylang, or rose, 2-3 hours before bed is a remedy that often works. This soothing effect can be supplemented by the addition of aromatherapy candles, natural incenses, and relaxing music. It is however important not to have a warm bath just before going to bed as this may actually stimulate the body and prevent sleep.
A well-balanced diet rich in various vitamins is also important for healthy sleep. Calcium is one such vitamin crucial for a regular sleep-cycle. Calcium-rich foods include yogurt, tofu, spinach, salmon, and almonds. Other vitamins include magnesium, folic acid, B5, B6, and B12. A variety of green leafy vegetables, fruits, and nuts are a good source of these vitamins.
