Benefits of lemon juice

The health benefits of lemon juice have been documented by various healing philosophies from India (Ayurveda), China (TCM: Traditional Chinese Medicine), and South America. Drinking a glass of lukewarm water with lemon juice first thing on waking up, on an empty stomach, is said to have a deep cleansing effect on the system. This concoction can also prove beneficial to those suffering from chronic constipation.


For those who do not like the tart taste a dash of honey or unrefined sugar can sweeten the drink and make it more palatable.

A teaspoon-full of lemon juice mixed with some gingerroot juice can help those with poor appetites and problematic digestion. Although lemon-juice will probably not reduce fat content in the food, it does have the ability to offset the oily texture of various fats and promote smoother digestion. Squeezing some fresh lemon juice on greasy food can help the body handle the heavy food better. Lemon juice can also be consumed in a salad dressing. Blend 2/3-cup virgin olive oil with 1/3-cup lemon juice, a tablespoon of honey, a pinch of black pepper, and a teaspoon of chopped parsley. This is an appetizing and healthy alternative to commercially available dressings rich in mayonnaise and other unhealthy ingredients.

Lemon juice is also said to have excellent anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. This makes it efficacious in fighting infections. Drinking fresh lemon juice with a sprig of mint can hasten recovery from a variety of infections.
