Prevention of Goitre
Goitre is an enlargement of the thyroid gland present in the lower part of the front neck. This gland is butterfly shaped gland with two lobes connected by a narrower band of thyroid tissue. Any swelling in the neck can be a symptom of goiter.
The thyroid gland is responsible for producing thyroid hormones known as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones help in regulating vital body functions. Therefore, it is very essential to prevent thyroid as in most of the cases of severe enlargement of the gland, it has to be removed.
The potential cause of goiter is deficiency of iodine. Therefore, a iodine rich diet is very important to regulate the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. Sea food is the richest source of iodine because marine animals concentrate most of iodine from seawater. Certain types of seaweeds, processed foods and dairy products are also good sources of iodine. These days' iodized salts are also available in markets.
Add more of these iodine rich foods to your diet because iodine is a life saver for thyroid gland and is believed to be the best prevention and treatment for goiter.
