Appendicitis causes The appendix is a small appendage to the colon in your body. Sometimes this appendage becomes swollen. This condition is known as appendicitis.
What happens is that the appendix, which is a small tube extending from the large bowel in your body, is filled with pus and blood when it is inflamed. This results in the blood supply being cut off. When this happens the walls of the appendix become weak and in extreme cases, even rupture.
This is known as a perforated appendix. In some cases the pus that emerges from the pus often causes an infection in the cavity in the abdomen. Sometimes it also causes an abdominal abscess.
In the case of children there is usually very little gap between the beginning of pain and the actual perforation of the appendix. The pain from an inflamed appendix usually starts on the right side of the abdomen. Sometimes it starts as a feeling of discomfort in the middle of the stomach. This pain then moves to the lower right hand side of the stomach. Sometimes of course a pain may just indicate indigestion.
In some cases this pain is accompanied by nausea, fever and also nausea. Appendicitis can occur in any person though it has been noticed in a greater degree in young adults. There is no identifiable reason for the occurrence of appendicitis in a person. However, you should immediately consult a doctor if you notice any of the symptoms related to appendicitis.
