Home remedies for scabies Scabies is a skin condition which causes severe itching and even results in a red rash. Scabies is caused by microscopic parasitic mites. These bugs burrow under the skin.
Once there they cause severe itching, resulting in a red rash. This condition is contagious and you can get it if you touch someone who is suffering from it. If you use clothes, towels or bedclothes belonging to someone who has scabies, then you are likely to get scabies too.
When you have scabies you notice that the skin between your fingers, or around the wrist, in armpits, and genitals is itchy. You will notice that the itching increases right after you have a hot bath. If you develop Norwegian scabies, you will notice that you will be covered with a crust. The mites hide under this thick skin and this condition is difficult to treat, since medication will not get through the thick skin.
You should first ascertain which type of scabies you are suffering from before you begin any treatment. You should visit your doctor who will be able to help you with this. You should wash all your clothes, bedclothes and towels in hot water and dry it. Vacuuming the floor will also help you get rid of the scabies. Soft toys and other things that cannot be washed should be packed away in plastic bags with the mouth closed securely. Leave them there for a few days and you will find that the mites have disappeared.
