Treatment for throat congestion Mucous is the thick, often ropy substance that lines your throat and drips from your nose when you have an infection. A bad cold can also cause mucous to clog your nose and very often the throat is affected to. However, if you notice that mucous clogs your nose and throat over a long period of time and does not respond to home remedies, then you should consult a doctor about these symptoms.
Avoid eating rich, oily food. You should stay away from cheese, ice creams and chocolate in any form. Instead your diet should consist of hot drinks and light food. You should ensure that you eat soft food. Gargling with salt water three or four times a day generally helps. Your intake of fluids should increase since this will help the mucous thin and make it easier for you to breathe. You should eat at least three cloves of garlic every day. Either you can eat them raw or else you can boil chopped garlic in a cup full of milk till it is reduced to half. Drink this at night. Some weak chamomile tea, with a little milk and some honey will ensure that you get a good night's sleep. A small stick of cinnamon, a small piece of ginger can be boiled in water to make a health drink. Add a table spoon of honey to this and drink.
