Treatment for fever blisters

Fever blisters are also known as cold sores. They are usually small blisters that appear on the side of the mouth and nose during a cold and are normally filled with fluid. These sores are caused with the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) in type 1 and type 2 variations.

Amongst the easiest ways to fight cold sores is to ensure that your immune system is fighting fit. Eat a healthy and balanced diet and ensure that you take ample amounts of vitamin C. You should avoid highly acidic and salty foods and also avoid drinking tea or coffee.

Ensure that your diet includes a proper amount of Vitamin A and E as well. Applying a tea bag on the sores every hour will help ease the discomfort.

You can also apply a small amount of grapefruit seed extract that has been mixed with olive oil on the sore. One of the most effective remedies for cold sores is lemon extract. This will not only soothe the itching and tingling but will also hasten your healing process. There are a number of other practical steps that you can take to ensure that you do not contract this virus because it is highly contagious. Avoid using same cutlery and crockery as others in your household and avoid any surface contact such as kissing. You should also not share the same bed linen with other people.
